Plenty of options to order Girl Scouts cookies

Creswell’s local Girl Scouts Troop 20247 volunteered at the Creswell Food Pantry last week, placing labels on repackaged baking chip bags and adding them to boxes.

Chew on this: Girl Scouts cookies have arrived in Lane County.

It should be only a week or so before people will be receiving boxes, local Scout leaders said. Area contacts and phone numbers for ordering:

Creswell: Troop 20247, Tammie Newell, 541-554-6158; Troop 20516, Bethany Cross, 541-913-6655;

Cottage Grove: Troop 20007, Tina Torti, 541-913-0673; Troop 60007, Enya McKinnon, 541-556-2906;

Oakridge: Troop 20468, Jamie Keis, 541-588-0243.

Lane County Girl Scouts will also be participating with GrubHub to deliver cookies Feb. 19-March 14, weekdays 3-9 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m.-9 p.m. The GrubHub arrangement is due to the pandemic.

Customers who work in Eugene/Springfield and are looking for cookies can get them through GrubHub. It is a 15-mile radius from the Oakway Mall area. “Sorry, no GrubHub in our area,” Troop 20247 leader Tammie Newell said, “but we will be covering the call times March 3-8. We look forward to seeing everyone around town soon.”

Even during pandemic restrictions, the Scouts have been planting flowers, serving senior citizens in local care facilities, helping at local food banks and giving back to schools.

Troop leaders said the girls are looking forward to being in communities again.

“We have been busy participating in Zoom meetings and working at our cookie businesses. We will not be out in the community selling cookies due to the Covid restrictions, but we are here to service the community and make sure you can purchase your cookies,” Newell said.

Newell reminds people that volunteers are employed in other jobs, and customers are welcome to leave messages. Calls might not be returned after 5 p.m., and everyone’s patience is appreciated, she said.

The Girl Scouts are a multi-level organization consisting of Daisy (K-1st grade), Brownies (2nd-3rd grades), Junior (4th-5th grades), Cadettes (middle school), Seniors (9th-10th grades), Ambassadors (11th-12th grades).

“Most of our troops are of mixed age levels to accommodate famiy needs. In Creswell, Troop 20247 is a mixed group heavier with the lower levels. Troop 20516 is upper levels of middle school and high school,” she said.
