Former Cottage Grove resident Roy Wayne Smith, 74, passed away on Sunday, December 27, 2020, at Salem Hospital.
Funeral arrangements were handled by Smith-Lund-Mills funeral home. Due to COVID restrictions a small graveside service was conducted on Monday, Jan. 4, 2021, for close family members only.
Roy was born Nov. 1, 1946 in Tulsa, Okla. to Roy Edward and Syble Irene Smith. Roy served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam War on the aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk.
Roy met Ludy Amante while stationed in the Philippines and they were married on June 28, 1969; they were married for 51 years.
Roy worked for and retired from Cherry City Electric as a proud union member of Local 280 after 30 years.
Roy is survived by his wife, Ludy, and his two children: R. Wayne Smith II and his wife Nichole, and Anya Smith; his three grandchildren: Madeline, Abigail, and Zoey; his great-grandchild Elton, his two brothers Michael and Danny, and the rest of his relatives and friends. Roy is preceded in death by his parents.
