Have you noticed recently that the stadium lights have been turned on at Creswell High School?
Starting this week, the CHS stadium lights will be shining Monday and Friday evenings to mark the beginning and end of each school week between now and the end of the school year.
These “Lights for Longing” are intended to honor all Creswell School District students and to signify that CSD educators are longing to be with their students.
“We miss our students’ presence in our classrooms, at sporting events, performing arts performances and all other extracurricular activities,” superintendent Mike Johnson posted on the district website.
“We want our students to know that they are always in our hearts and minds, and that we miss starting and ending the week together with them.”
To honor the CHS Class of 2020, whose senior year is being particularly hard-hit by COVID-19 school closures – forcing cancellation of their commencement ceremony and overnight senior trip, senior prom, senior awards ceremony and other once-in-a-lifetime milestones with their families and classmates – the stadium illumination will begin at 8:20 p.m. (20:20 military time) each Monday and Friday.
In addition, the game time, team scores and yard lines on the stadium clock will all be set at 20.
Johnson said the district will continue to explore possibilities for student-centered distance and virtual events and celebrations in the weeks ahead.
