Covid-19 precautions underway

SPRINGFIELD – Throughout Springfield, precautions are being put in place to help prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Beyond Oregon Gov. Kate Brown’s statewide orders, the City is being proactive in keeping its citizens safe while still offering needed support to families in need.
Even with the closing of the school district until April 1, the Springfield food service crews are making to-go meals available to any student at any school from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The Springfield Public Library and Springfield Museum are closed until March 31, and all event and programming has been suspended until further notice, including the Friends of the Springfield Library Book Sale on March 13-14 and the El día de los niños/El día de los libros — Children’s Day/Book Day celebration on April 25.
Residents can keep their library materials through this closure; there will be no late fees charged during this time.
The City also is limiting in-person meetings and suspending large events. Social distancing and other preventative measures are in place for essential meetings that cannot be postponed. March 16 will be the last City Council meeting before the council breaks for a spring recess through April 5.
Willamalane has closed its Adult Activity Center and has suspended all programs and activities until further notice. All swim lessons, water fitness classes, waterpark swims and recreation swims at both Splash! At Lively Park and Willamalane Park Swim Center are suspended. Refunds or credits will be issued to patrons who already have paid for canceled programs.
Despite Willamalane closing, the organization has partnered with Senior and Disabled Services to transition its usual senior meals lunch into a to-go option. Participants can arrive at the parking lot from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday-Friday to pick up their lunch. The program is offered to people 60 and over; lunch is free with a suggested donation of $3.
