WEEK IN REVIEW
BOYS BASKETBALL
Creswell 49, Sutherlin 42
The skinny: Fans wore red in support of CHS in a first-round playoff game. CHS trailed by three at halftime. Creswell’s senior-led team began the second half with eight unanswered points. Sutherlin still led by two with five minutes left, but Creswell went on a 13-4 run to end Sutherlin’s season. Kai Apo had a game-high with 21 points and nine rebounds. Collin Bodine had 19 points for Sutherlin.
Coach speaks: ”We did a really good job eliminating their opportunities at getting second-chance shots and we were able to create more second-chance opportunities for ourselves, which was the game-changer,” Jesse Thomas said.

THE WEEK AHEAD
BOYS BASKETBALL
Who: CHS vs. Amity, Marshfield HS, 3:15 p.m. ScorebookLive.com has live play-by-play.
What: OSAA Basketball State Championships
When: Thursday, Mar. 5 – Saturday, March 7
Why2Watch: The last time Creswell saw a quarterfinal game was in 2015 when they lost to De La Salle North Catholic in the championship game 51-46. With all but four players being seniors, every game holds the potential of being the last for the majority of the team. CHS takes on No. 4 ranked Amity, whose only league losses were to No. 2 Dayton and No. 3 Salem Academy. Creswell has only one loss over the last 14 games going into postseason.
Coach speaks: ”Amity plays uptempo fast-paced basketball like we do. They press and really try to put pressure on you so it’s likely to be a high-energy and high-scoring game,” said head coach Jesse Thomas.

EQUESTRIAN
When: Friday, Mar. 6 – Sunday, Mar. 8, Oregon Horse Center, 8 a.m.
Why2Watch: After losing half of the drill team this year, CHS has been fine-tuning its drill routine for the second of three regular-season events. Jr. Gracie Bones is looking to medal in the working rancher event, which would secure a state bid.
Coach speaks: ”When you head into the second of only three gauranteed events, the kids and the animals have been working relentlessly and finally get to put it all into action when it counts the most,” said head coach Lauri Thomas.
