CHS: THE WEEK AHEAD

BOYS BASKETBALL GAMES
Tuesday, Dec. 17
CHS at Sutherlin, 7 p.m.
Friday, Dec. 20
CHS at Oakland, 7:30 p.m.
Saturday, Dec. 21
CHS at Douglas, 6 p.m.
WHAT2WATCH: Unless you’re up for a road trip, you’ll want to be watching live updates on ScorebookLive.com because the next home game isn’t until the end of the year. ”We’re going to have to maintain our discipline and our focus if we want to compete with all three of these teams. We need to execute at a high level, play up-tempo basketball, and get them to make mistakes,” said head coach Jesse Thomas.
WHO2WATCH: The matchup you won’t want to miss will be the one between seniors Tyler Frieze of Creswell and Sutherlin’s Mason Gill. ”The goal when you’re defending a player like that is just to keep him from totally going off. You’re not going to shut him down completely but limit him as much as you can and make the other guys do the scoring for them,” Thomas said.
NOTABLE: Last year Sutherlin won the Far West League, losing only one game during the regular season. Sutherlin finished sixth after losing in the consolation bracket.
QUOTABLE: Thomas said: ”Sutherlin is a top 10 team that could win their league this year. If we don’t defend and rebound at a very high level, we won’t be able to compete with them. They’re big, they’re physical and if we’re soft, they’ll exploit that and just play bully ball with us. We’ve got to play tough the entire time we’re on the court.”

WRESTLING
EVENT: Shamrock Wrestling Tournament, at Riddle HS.
WHAT2WATCH: Going on simultaneously is a tournament in Grants Pass, where most of the larger schools will be competing. Watch how Creswell competes against the smaller schools that will be at Riddle HS with them. ”It’s always good preparation for districts to compete with the bigger schools but it’ll be good for us to go up against schools we don’t see as often,” said coach Mario Perez. Glide and Myrtle Point will also be attending the Shamrock Tourney and both have such strong wrestling programs that their athletes can’t ever be counted out.
WHO2WATCH: For the first time this season, Rogelio Legorreta represents after missing time for various reasons. Fun fact: Creswell Athletic Director Brandon Standridge is a Riddle High School grad.
