CRESWELL – The well-known stretch of Oregon Avenue that runs over the railroad tracks between Front and Mill streets is often congested on most days, leading to an uneven symphony of honking horns and screeching tires.
Strap in folks, and turn up the volume.
The good news is that the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT) is undertaking a month-long project to install a sidewalk that is compliant with the American with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards.
The flipside to that good news is that Creswell’s most notorious downtown intersection will experience lane closures and potential detours during the construction.
Paige Dickinson, construction coordinator for ODOT, said the project timeline has it reaching ”standard completion” during the first week of November. Drivers can start looking for traffic and construction signage soon.
Drivers will not be able to turn onto N. Front Street during portions of the work, and one lane of Oregon Avenue will be closed (the northernmost lane, where the sidewalk work is being done). ODOT will utilize cones to create two, smaller lanes for vehicles to cross the intersection during construction.
