Crafts + Cider

SPRINGFIELD – Last weekend at Bring Recycling Director of Operations Steven Colbert instructs young orchardist Wiley Bucolo in how to press apples into cider for Wildcraft Cider Works’ 5th annual Community Fruit Drive. Bucolo, from Elmira, joined at least 30 other participants throughout the day to bring their harvests, large or small, from all over Lane County. The event, ”Make it! Apple Crafts + Cider Pressing,” was part of Bring’s ongoing workshop series. This year’s collecting day at Bring, over 300 pounds of apples, pears and plums were donated to the cause. Participants were given pint vouchers for Wildcraft’s Tasting Room or some fresh-pressed cider to take home. Local fruit contributed to Wildcraft from July through November is combined and processed into a quality cider to be sold the following year. Wildcraft donates proceeds from the Community Cider Series to local conservation and land stewardship nonprofit organizations, specifically the Upper Willamette Stewardship Network.
