Springfield Museum space sees renovations
The Springfield Museum’s second-floor permanent exhibit space and stairwell closed last Thursday in preparation for upcoming renovation work. The first-floor Kathy Jensen Gallery will remain open to the public with no change in hours.
As part of the Springfield Museum’s reorganization, the Springfield Interpretive Center will be moved from the second floor of the museum to the first floor, and the second floor will be used for collections storage and conservation workspaces.
“This renovation will give community members, visitors and researchers more accessibility to the museum’s exhibits, while also supporting the care and conservation of our irreplaceable artifacts,” said museum curator, Madeline McGraw.
In May 2019, the museum was awarded an $18,000 grant from the Oregon Community Foundation to purchase archival storage equipment to support the renovation project. The museum will continue to host changing exhibits, receptions and programing in the Kathy Jensen Gallery during the renovations.
