Making healthy food choices can be challenging. The chaos of life almost always makes it easier to swing by a drive-thru. Not only is this typically an unhealthy option, but all that money spent on burgers and fries go to an out-of-state corporation. But in Lane County, fresh options that benefit your health and your community are plentiful.
The Food for Lane County Youth Farm is a Community Supported Agriculture (CSA), a subscription program in which members regularly receive a package of fresh produce. It will also be setting up farm stands through Oct. 25. The Youth Farm hosts a farm stand at 311 Riverbend Drive from 2 to 6 p.m. on Thursdays. On Saturdays, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., it will be at 705 Flamingo Ave. in Springfield. The Youth Farm accepts Oregon Trail and SNAP.
Good Food Easy delivers weekly CSAs to Creswell, Springfield and Eugene residents. With three box sizes, families can customize their shares to fit their needs. Every-other-week options are also available, and customers can skip weeks when needed.
A particularly unique feature of Good Food Easy, customers only pay for four weeks at a time, instead of paying for an entire season. They also send out weekly newsletters informing customers what to expect in their next share and offering cooking tips and recipes. Good Food Easy also has plans to open a stand at its farm on Weiss Road in Creswell.
