Expert river guide joins Chronicle

Frank Armendariz started his guide career on Oregon’s Deschutes River in 1984 as a contract fly fishing guide then outfitter and owner operator of Rivers Path Outfitters. They specialized in three- to five-day fly fishing/camp out trips on the lower 100 miles of that fabled river.
Armendariz now brings his vast experience as an angler, hunter, rafting expert, cyclist and hiker to The Chronicle.
Starting June 6, The Chronicle will offer expanded Outdoors coverage with features, profiles, trend stories, a fishing report and more.
Expedition style trips have always been Armendariz’s specialty. Rivers Path Outfitters provided lodge-style accommodation in a wilderness setting that changed every night on a 40- to 50-mile trip.
That experience was the motivation behind the launch of River Trail Outfitters, a drift boat fly fishing guide service on Oregon’s Willamette and McKenzie rivers. Custom and specialized river expedition class equipment sales that includes raft frames, dry boxes, oars and a selection of only the best equipment designed for expedition and wilderness river boating. And finally a vehicle shuttle (www.rivertrailshuttle.com) on the best multiple-day river trip in the western USA, Oregon’s Willamette River Water Trail.
River-based activities like river drift boat fly fishing and wilderness rafting are passions. He has made whitewater rafting for groups and individuals of all ages and abilities on the McKenzie River near Eugene Oregon, a recreational opportunity everyone can experience.
