High Tea may still be part of the culture in England and part of Europe, but was lost to America as part of our daily lives years ago. Some may even call it the dark day of the lost art of the High Tea.
Thankfully there is a resurgence of the quaint and delicious practice of High Tea coming back around in the busy lives of the American culture.
The Shelton McMurphey Johnson House in Eugene prides itself in offering one of the most unique High Tea venues in Oregon. It will feel as though guests stepped back in time when they partake in one of their special afternoon teas.
Guests can even dress the part when attending a High Tea at the Victorian mansion, as many of the patrons do. Large hats, white gloves and Victorian dresses, are the chosen attire for some; or simply attend in Sunday’s best.
Come with an appetite! Though the tea goodies are small in size, the tea finger sandwiches, scones, sweet cookies come in three different courses and three different kinds of tea is served with each course.
While having tea and goodies served on antique china and dish ware, guests can also tour the Victorian mansion on the hill. The High Tea and the tour of the home sets the mood and truly brings guests back in time.
Beyond the tour, spectral food and tea guests can enjoy Celtic Harp music played by Janet M. Naylor. It makes for the total package listening to Celtic harp music that was written over a 100 years ago.
The High Teas served at the Shelton McMurphey Johnson House provides much needed funds to help with the running and upkeep of one of the most visual keepsakes in Eugene, so while enjoying the simple pleasure of indulging in High Tea, feel good in supporting this Eugene icon.
