Winter 2017-2018
Girls’ Basketball
The 11th-ranked Lady Bulldogs earned a trip to the OSAA 3A State Championships in Coos Bay after pulling off an upset victory over sixth-ranked Lakeview in their state playoffs game.
Creswell narrowly lost to third-ranked Rainier in the state quarterfinals, then fell to seventh-ranked Coquille in the consolation semifinals to go two-and-out at state.
The Lady Dawgs had defeated Pleasant Hill but fallen to league champion Coquille during Mountain Valley Conference playoffs to claim the MVC’s second seed to state.
One Creswell player earned All-State honors and four netted All-League nods.
■ Karley Bellew, a senior forward who averaged a double-double on the season, was named to the OSAA 3A Girls’ Basketball All-State Second Team and was named Mountain Valley Conference Player of the Year.
■ Bailey Howell a junior forward/post, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference First Team.
■ Cali Allen, a senior guard, was named to the MVC Second Team.
■ Aleesha Fox, a senior guard, received MVC Honorable Mention.
Boys’ Basketball
The Bulldogs made it as far as the OSAA 3A State Playoffs after defeating Pleasant Hill in overtime, and upsetting league leader Coquille during league playoffs to capture the Mountain Valley Conference’s first seed to state.
Boosted to seventh in 3A state rankings after league playoffs, the Bulldogs hosted 10th-ranked Oregon Episcopal School for their state playoff game, but their state run ended with a 46-63 loss to the Aardvarks.
One Creswell player earned an All-State nod and four, plus their coach, earned All-League honors.
■ Trey Magnuson, a senior guard, was named to the OSAA 3A Boys’ Basketball All-State Second Team and was named Mountain Valley Conference Co-Player of the Year.
■ Jesse Thomas, head coach of the Bulldogs, was named Mountain Valley Conference Coach of the Year.
■ Jack Callahan, a senior forward, was named to the MVC First Team.
■ Chance Bellew, a senior guard, was named to the MVC Second Team.
■ Tyler Frieze, a sophomore guard, received MVC Honorable Mention.
Wrestling
The Bulldogs sent two wrestlers to the OSAA 3A State Championships after a successful outing at the Special District 2 Wrestling Championships, where all but two competing Creswell wrestlers placed, and one earned an individual district title.
■ Titus Mejia-Rice, a junior and two-time state champion at 145 pounds, placed second at state after suffering a 0-1 loss in the state championship match. He had also placed second in his weight class at districts.
■ Blake Nelson, a senior who was seeded second at state 220 pounds, placed third at state and earned his second district championship at that weight.
■ Jeramiya Yates placed third at 182 pounds at districts.
■ Alex Metteer placed fourth at 115 pounds at districts.
■ Logan Johnson placed fifth at 138 pounds at districts.
■ Josiah Lee placed fifth at 120 pounds at districts.
■ Rogelio Legorreta placed fifth at 170 pounds at districts.
■ Miguel Lopez placed sixth at 115 pounds at districts.
■ Kobe Sanders placed sixth at 160 pounds at districts.
Equestrian
The CHS equestrian team sent six athletes to the Oregon High School Equestrian Team (OHSET) State Championships in Redmond. Those six had qualified for state after earning district medals by placing in the top three overall in their state-qualifying events, based on the season’s three South Valley District meets.
■ Levi Bones placed seventh at state in steer daubing, earning a second alternate spot at Regionals. He advanced to state as the South Valley District’s gold medalist in steer daubing and the silver medalist in breakaway roping. He made no catches in roping at state.
■ The team of Hope Walpole, Jane Marquess, Levi Bones and Grace Haga placed 10th in Freestyle 4s at state, after advancing to state as the South Valley District gold medalist in that event.
■ Gracie Van Zandt placed 24th at state in showmanship, after advancing to state as the South Valley District gold medalist in that event.
■ The team of Levi Bones and Grace Haga took a no-time in two-man birangle at state, after advancing to state as the South Valley District’s bronze medalist in that event.
Competition Cheer
The CHS competition cheer team placed third in the 3A/2A/1A division to win a trophy during the Newberg Classic in January. Creswell did not qualify for state in 2018.
Spring 2018
Track
Three of the six Bulldogs who represented Creswell during the OSAA 3A State Track and Field Championships medaled by placing in the top eight in at least one event. All six had qualified for state by placing first or second in their events during the Mountain Valley Conference/Special District 4 District Track and Field Championships, where four Bulldogs earned individual District Champion titles.
■ Cali Allen, a senior, was Creswell’s highest finisher at state, placing third in the javelin with a personal-best throw of 125-01. This bettered by nearly five feet her second-place throw at districts in that event.
■ Gauge Smith, a sophomore, medaled in all three of his events at state, recording personal records in two of them. Smith placed fourth in the 200 meters in a PR of 23.07a, bettering his second-place district PR by .51/second. The district champion in the 300m, he placed sixth in that event at state with a PR of 42.93a. He also placed sixth in the 100m at state after placing second at districts.
■ Nick Bronson, a junior, placed eighth in the 300m hurdles in 43.92a, bettering his second-place district finish by 1.03. He was the district champion in the 110m high hurdles but did not make finals in that event at state.
■ Shelby Lamm, a sophomore, did not make finals at state in the 200m but bettered her co-district champion time in that event by .36/second at state.
■ Hannah Bettis, a junior, did not qualify for finals at state in the 300m intermediate hurdles, after placing second in that event at districts. She had also placed second at districts in the 100m high hurdles, but did not make finals for that event at state.
■ Addison Werner, a senior who was district champion in the 100m high hurdles, did not make finals in that event at state.
Softball
Although they did not qualify for postseason play, the Lady Dawgs ended their season in style, as Kelsey Kuhnhausen powered her second home run of the year – a thrilling, last-chance, seventh-inning, three-run homer that gave Creswell a 13-12 walk-off win during their Senior Night against Pleasant Hill.
The Lady Dawgs compiled a team GPA of 3.89 during the season, garnering the top spot on the OSAA Academic All-State list. Four Creswell players also earned All-League honors for the Mountain Valley Conference.
■ Destiney Black, a freshman, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference Second Team as a pitcher.
■ Kelsey Kuhnhausen, a junior, was named to the MVC Second Team as a catcher.
■ Morgan Janshen, a junior, was named to the MVC Second Team as an infielder.
■ Aubrie Hatch, a junior, was named to the MVC Second Team as a utility player/designated hitter.
Baseball
Although the Bulldogs did not qualify for postseason play, five Creswell players earned All-League honors for the Mountain Valley Conference.
■ Dylan Miller, a senior, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference First Team as an infielder.
■ Dean Howard, a junior, was named to the MVC Second Team as a pitcher.
■ Jack Callahan, a senior, was named to the MVC Second Team as an outfielder.
■ Cade Apo, a senior, was named to the MVC Second Team as a utility player/designated hitter.
■ Colton White, a senior, received Honorable Mention as a utility player/designated hitter.
Fall 2018
Volleyball
It was a rebuilding year for the Lady Bulldogs; nevertheless, the team succeeded in keeping alive their proud and lengthy tradition of qualifying for the OSAA 3A Volleyball State Championships in Forest Grove.
The 10th-ranked Lady Dawgs went home without a trophy after dropping their state quarterfinals match 0-3 to second-ranked Santiam Christian and their consolation semifinals match 1-3 to sixth-ranked Horizon Christian.
The Lady Dawgs made it to state playoffs on an at-large bid after a loss to Harrisburg during the Mountain Valley Conference league championships denied them the MVC’s second seed to state. They defeated Catlin Gabel in their state playoff game to advance to the state championships.
One Creswell player netted All-State honors and four earned All-League nods for the Mountain Valley Conference.
■ Bailey Howell, a senior outside hitter/setter, was named to the 3A All-State Second Team and to the Mountain Valley Conference First Team.
■ Breanna Dapron, a sophomore outside hitter, was named to the Mountain Valley Conference First Team.
■ Jenessa Mallory, a junior setter, was named to the MVC Second Team.
■ Kylee Whitson, a junior middle hitter, was named to the MVC Second Team.
Football
After receiving special dispensation from the OSAA to drop down to 2A this season in a bid to be more competitive, based on their small roster size, the Bulldogs still fought hard to earn victories and did not qualify for postseason play.
Eight Creswell players earned spots on 2A Central Valley Conference’s 2018 All-League teams.
■ Tayler Forsman, a senior, received First Team Offense honors as a wide receiver and First Team Defense honors as a defensive back.
■ Logan Johnson, a junior, was named Second Team Offense as a center and received Honorable Mention Defense as a linebacker.
■ Jaycob Kremer, a junior, was named Second Team Defense as a linebacker.
■ Tyler Olson, a senior, was named Second Team Defense as a linebacker.
■ Gabe Hastings, a sophomore, was named Second Team Defense as a defensive lineman.
■ Levi Bones, a senior, received Honorable Mention Defense as a defensive lineman.
■ Nick Mullen, a senior, received Honorable Mention Defense as a defensive lineman.
■ Dallton Dewey, a junior, received Honorable Mention Defense as a defensive back.
Girls’ Soccer
The 16th-ranked Lady Bulldogs made it as far as the OSAA 3A/2A/1A state playoffs, where their state run ended with a 0-8 shutout loss to top-ranked Catlin Gabel. The Lady Dawgs had earned Special District 3’s second seed to state after besting Pleasant Hill in a league playoff game.
Two Creswell players received All-State nods and eight earned spots on Special District 3’s All-League teams:
■ Allison Smathers, a senior midfielder, was named to the OSAA 3A/2A/1A First Team All-State and was named Co-Player of the Year for Special District 3.
■ Tabetha Donovan, a senior goalkeeper, received All-State Honorable Mention and was named Special District 3 Goalkeeper of the Year.
■ Hannah Bettis, a senior defender, was named to the Special District 3 First Team.
■ Hallie Drago, a senior midfielder, was named to the district’s First Team.
■ Kelsey Kuhnhausen, a senior defender, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Aubrie Hatch, a senior defender/midfielder, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Morgan Janshen, a senior forward, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Anna Dahl, a sophomore midfielder/forward, was named to the district’s Second Team.
Boys’ Soccer
The 15th-ranked Bulldogs made it as far as the OSAA 3A/2A/1A state playoffs, where their state run ended with a 0-6 shutout loss to second-ranked Catlin Gabel. The Dawgs had entered state playoffs as the second seed from Special District 3, after defeating Pleasant Hill 1-0 in a league playoff game.
Eight Creswell players garnered spots on Special District 3’s All-League teams.
■ Nick Bronson, a senior defender, was named to the Special District 3 First Team.
■ Avel Garcia-Fetter, a senior midfielder/forward, was named to the district’s First Team.
■ Rogelio Legorreta, a junior defender, was named to the district’s First Team.
■ Cam Nguyen, a sophomore midfielder/forward, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Julian Nuñez, a senior forward, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Christian Tucker, a senior midfielder/forward, was named to the district’s Second Team.
■ Kobe Sanders, a senior defender, received Honorable Mention
■ Jaxson Wilkerson, a senior goalkeeper, received Honorable Mention.
Cross Country
Sophomore Brandon Moehlmann was the Bulldogs’ lone qualifier for the OSAA 3A/2A/1A State Cross Country Championships at Lane Community College. He placed 35th at state with a time of 18:43 – 27 seconds off his time at the Special District 4 3A Boys’ District Championships in Gold Hill. Moehlmann’s fourth-place finish at districts qualified him for state.
Two Bulldogs earned All-District honors based on their district championship finishes:
■ Brandon Moehlmann, a sophomore, placed fourth at districts in the boys’ 5k with a time of 18:16.26.
■ Josiah Lee, a sophomore, placed seventh at districts in the boys’ 5k with a time of 18:31.58.
