Doris Pauline Miller May 1, 1922 – Sept. 24, 2018
Doris Pauline Miller, 96, of Cottage Grove passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sept. 24, 2018.
She was born in Orland, Calif. on May 1, 1922 to parents Matthew and Frances (Wilson) Kirkpatrick. Three generations of Kirkpatricks arrived in Creswell in 1929 in a family freight wagon full of possessions. With 10 mules, they settled in upper Bear Creek.
Doris graduated from Creswell High School in 1939 and attended Eugene Business College for two years.
Doris married Clarence Miller in Twin Falls, Idaho. She worked one day a week at the outlying schools as a secretary for 22 years.
”She knew hundreds of kids and their parents, and enjoyed the people so much, I am sure she will be remembered fondly.”
Doris liked to cook, can and knit. She liked to sew and even made all her mother’s clothes.
”Mom was a holdover from a time when ships were made of wood, men made of steel, and women were made of titanium.”
She was a member of the Dorena Grange since 1960.
Doris is survived by her son, Harvey (Sue) Miller of Cottage Grove; brother, Gerald Kirkpatrick of Marcola; sister, Ruth Knox of Mountain View, Idaho; grandsons, Roger Sutton and Clark Miller; four great-granddaughters; and six great-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Miller, three brothers and one sister.
Our family would like to thank Sacred Home Health and Hospice for all the loving care they gave our mom. The family asks that you adopt a pet, enable hospice or hug your mom.
”Yar, Harvey Miller and family.”
A celebration of life will be on a later date. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove. Please send your condolences on the online obituary at smithlundmills.com.
