Hughes pleads guilty to attempted sex abuse Stephens case makes way thru court

A Creswell man has pleaded guilty to attempted sex abuse and must now register as a sex offender.
Dominic Alexander Hughes, 20, pleaded guilty to the lesser included offense, first degree attempted sex abuse, at Lane County Circuit Court on Sept. 6.
According to court records, between June 1 and Aug. 1, 2017, Hughes attempted to subject a child under the age of 14 to sexual contact.
As part of the negotiation, by pleading guilty to the lesser included offense, the greater offense of first degree sex abuse was dismissed, according to court records.
Hughes was given time-served for 97 days spent in jail before being bailed out in July, and was sentenced to 36 months of supervised probation, according to court records.
He must register as a sex offender, complete a sex offender evaluation and complete any recommended treatment, according to court records.
Additionally, Hughes was ordered not to have any contact with minors or be in places where minors congregate without written permission of the probation officer. He was ordered not to have any contact with the victims listed in discovery, according to court records.
Hughes must also provide all social networking identities and passwords to the probation officer, and cannot use any alcohol or drugs, including marijuana, according to court records.
Additionally, Hughes was ordered to appear pursuant to any subpoena he may be served to testify truthfully in the State vs. Dustin Stephens case, according to court records.
Sentencing for Hughes is set for Thursday, Sept. 20 at Lane County Circuit Court.
Hughes was arrested on April 4 as a result of an investigation following the arrest of Dustin Lee Stephens, 32, of Creswell, according to Lane County Sheriff’s Office.
Stephens was arrested on March 8 for two counts of second degree rape, two counts of first degree unlawful sexual penetration and one count of first degree sex abuse.
The two counts of second degree rape occurred between March 1, 2017 and Sept. 1, 2017, where Stephens allegedly engaged in sexual intercourse with a child under the age of 14 years old, according to court records.
One count of first degree penetration occurred between Jan. 1 and Sept. 1, 2017 and the second count of first degree penetration occurred between March 1 and Sept. 1, 2017, where Stephens allegedly penetrated a child under the age 0f 12 years old with an object, according to court records.
First degree sex abuse occurred between Jan. 1 and Sept. 1, 2017, where Stephens allegedly subjected a child under the age of 14 years old to sexual contact, according to court records.
Stephens is currently being lodged at Lane County Jail.
Trial for Stephens is set for Nov. 6 at Lane County Circuit Court.
