Nelson P. Woodland

Nelson P. Woodland, 87, passed away on July 13, 2018 at his home in Creswell, surrounded by his family.
He was born Jan. 4, 1931 in Burley, Idaho to Ezra A. Woodland and Leona V. (Nelson) Woodland. He attended Creswell High School, where he graduated in 1949, and was the student body president. He was also an eagle scout.
Nelson served in Korea in the United States Army Infantry in 1952. When he returned from Korea, he married his sweetheart, Ruby Jean Perkins, on June 7, 1953. Nelson and Ruby enjoyed fishing, traveling, bowling, reading and spending time with their family.
He worked with his father and brother in the family concrete business, E.A. Woodland and Sons, after coming home from the war. He went to work for Pacific Northwest Bell in 1955, and retired Feb. 22, 1986 after 31 years.
He was preceded in death by his wife Ruby; his brother Richard Woodland; and his sisters Wanda Wimberly and Zelda Trueblood.
He is survived by his four children, Nelson (Gail) Paul; Steven (Sherri) Alfred; Scott (Carol) Douglas and Sandra Dawn Barreau.
He was extremely proud of his 11 grandkids, Sarah Wilson; Jennifer Alexander; Nathan Woodland; Jason Woodland; Travis Woodland; Jonathan Woodland; Amanda Schussman; Maggie Barreau; Alex Barreau; Becca Barreaul; and Amy Christensen. He is also survived by seven great-grandkids and numerous nieces and nephews.
At Nelson’s request, there will be no services, but a celebration of a life well-lived gathering will be held at his home on Saturday, Aug. 4 at 4 p.m.
