Big chain stores and imported, low-quality products have become a common occurrence in this country, leading to poor customer service, lack of diversity and individuality, and low standards. Luckily for us, we live in the Pacific Northwest where locally made, high-quality products and family-owned businesses thrive.
One business stands above the rest: The Brewstation and Coast Fork Feed in Cottage Grove. Owned by Dale and Ernie Smith, and their daughter, Emily Rinck, The Brewstation and Coast Fork Feed is the epitome of an environmentally conscious, community-supporting business that screams small-town America.
Coast Fork Feed sells only the highest quality farm and garden supplies including grains, produce, plants and fertilizers, while focusing on non-GMO, organic and OMRI-approved products. Coast Fork Feed grows most of their plants themselves, either in the store or at their other business, Coast Fork Nursery.
Dale, Ernie and Emily take pride in working with other locally owned companies, such as Bear Mountain Honey, Down to Earth, Pitcher Lane Growers and Laurel Mountain Coffee. They also carry beekeeping products, housewares, Jande candles, brewing and fermentation supplies, and other unique gifts and products that will surely compliment any home or garden.
The other half of the business, The Brewstation, offers ample indoor and outdoor seating featuring revolving taps of lager, pilsner ales and stouts, as well as locally crafted wines and ciders. Chef Stephen and sous chef Michelle provide farmhouse-fresh foods for lunch and dinner and specialize in sweet and savory desserts such as pies and tarts.
Local musicians and bands perform every Friday and Saturday night, and The Brewstation even hosts the occasional touring band. Upcoming events include Lea Jones on April 20, Caught Red Handed on April 21, Gregg Biller on April 25, The Huckleberrys on April 27 and Flies with Honey on April 28.
The Brewstation and Coast Fork Feed will also celebrate their five-year anniversary on April 28 and invite their customers to join them for the festivities.
Emily, Dale, and Ernie strongly believe in helping their neighbors and supporting the local high schools, South Lane Mental Health, and youth and family programs by raising funds, awareness and participation. The Brewstation and Coast Fork Feed was nominated for Cottage Grove Chamber of Commerce’s Business of the Year in 2017 due to their great customer service and positive impact on the community.
Whether you enjoy the taste of local wine and beer, want to start your own brewing project, or nurture your plants and vegetables with high-quality fertilizers and mixes, stop by The Brewstation and Coast Fork Feed to see Ernie, Emily and Dale. Their store isn’t just a business, it’s a way of life.
