CHS equestrians win two events at first meet

Creswell High equestrians garnered two first-place finishes during Oregon High School Equestrian Teams (OHSET) South Valley District’s first meet of the season, held Feb. 9-11 at Oregon Horse Center in Eugene.
Gracie Van Zandt placed first in showmanship and the team of Hope Walpole, Levi Bones, Grace Haga and Jane Marquess placed first in drill.
In other top 10 finishes, McKenzie Hutchinson placed second in steer daubing; Walpole, Gracie Bones and Cassie Fergason placed fourth in team penning; Walpole placed fifth in steer daubing while Levi Bones took sixth and Marquess took ninth; Levi Bones took fifth in breakaway roping; and Levi Bones and Haga took fifth in two-man birangle while Walpole and Marquess took 10th.
Walpole placed sixth in poles and individual flags and seventh in barrels; the team of Marquess, Walpole, Levi Bones, Haga and Gracie Bones took seventh in Canadian flags; Haga was ninth in keyhole; and Levi Bones, Marquess and Haga were 10th in team penning.
”The athletes were amazing this first meet,” said Head Coach Lauri Thomas. ”Thank you to all the family and coaching support that helped with volunteering time, energy and enthusiasm as we competed. We also want to thank our sponsors, whose support is integral to our success.”
