Moving can be challenge, especially when it involves downsizing. Such is the case for many seniors making the transition to assisted living or retirement homes. Diana Masarie experienced this firsthand when she helped both her parents and inlaws in making that transition.
Masarie said it is a lot of work for a person to both move and downsize their belongings, especially if they have to do it alone. So with a background in project management and psychology, Masarie decided to help others like her parents with the ins and outs of moving.
”I got into it because I loved it and it just grew,” Masarie said.
Enter Move-In Comfort – a business founded by Masarie in 2004, aimed at helping older adults with the whole moving and downsizing process. It was the first senior move management company in the Northwest and provides services to people all over Lane County.
Move-In Comfort primarily focuses on assisting seniors in moving from large homes to smaller properties or assisted living facilities. Masarie compares it to being a wedding planner, but for moving. While not actually facilitating the move, Move-In Comfort coordinates with third parties to provide their clients with services most suited for them.
”This is a really big deal and it’s pretty complicated,” Masarie said. ”It’s not like any other move people will make in the course of their life. Many people are paralyzed at the idea of undertaking it.”
The business also helps coordinate with movers to ensure everything at the new home is in its proper place. After taking photos of a person’s old home, Move-In Comfort is present while movers work, to oversee the whole process. So if a person’s bed is made a certain way or they have their books in a particular order on their shelf, it’ll be that way again when when they arrive at their new home.
”Our favorite thing to hear is when our clients come into their new place and say, ‘Oh, how did you do this – it looks like home,’” Masarie said.
Owned by masarie, Move-In Comfort is a registered member of the National Association of Senior Move Managers and the only registered member in the Eugene area. Masarie said that she could potentially expand her business to Bend or possibly even set up a satellite office in Florence, but for now, Masarie plans on focusing on the Eugene area.
Move-In Comfort is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and is located at 399 E 10th Ave. in Eugene. You can reach them at 541-338-4310 to schedule a free complimentary home consultation. More info: moveincomfort.com.
