Letter: Masks required; Farmlands employees ask for patience, kindness

Dear customers,

First, thank you.

We are all living through an unprecedented crisis. We are all scared, frustrated, uncertain, tired, and there is no end in sight.

Despite all those things you have continued to show compassion, kindness, and patience to our team members and for that we are deeply grateful.

On Wednesday July 1st, an executive order was issued requiring face coverings to be worn in all indoor public spaces. This means that all who enter our store must wear face masks, excluding children under the age of 12 and those who have exemptions.

And so, once again, we must reach out to you and ask that you treat our team members with kindness and compassion. They do not have any control over this situation. This executive order is causing them tremendous anxiety. They, like most people, do not like confrontation. They just want to do their job and support their community.

We understand that this order is experienced differently by every person. That it has been a point of contention. Something that has divided our community.

We know that everything that is happening due to Covid-19 is unsettling, frustrating and something that is causing all of us to be on edge. More confrontational. Less patient.

Having said that, please do not take out your frustration and fear on our team members. They are under tremendous stress, just like you.

Moving forward, we will do our best to maintain a supply of disposable masks. If you forget your mask, these are available to you.

We ask that you:

1. Wear a mask when you enter our store 2. Use a provided disposable mask if you forget to bring your mask. 3. Do not forget that we offer curbside. If you are uncomfortable or unable to wear a mask, that’s okay! We are happy to bring your items to your car. Simply call 541-895-3500.

We understand this requirement happened suddenly. That many people may not be prepared for it or may have trouble remembering that it is in place. All anyone can do is try.

Be kind to one another, support each other, and please be understanding. We will get through this together.

Sincerely,

Farmlands Market Team
