Growth is not always easy; I can attest to this from my own experience. I often ponder the phrase, “Pray without ceasing.” Is this even possible?
When I first began my walk with God, my early prayers echoed the sentiments of Mark 9:24: “I believe; help my unbelief!” As I grew, my prayers became more frequent, though I must admit that they mostly consisted of requests for forgiveness. I realized I was selfish, impatient, and easily angered—at least I had progressed enough to recognize my need for forgiveness regarding my temper!
Fortunately, growth continued. While working on various projects, I would encounter problems that tested my patience. In those moments, I began to pray—first for forgiveness for my temper. Over time, my prayers evolved to include requests for comfort and patience, and eventually for guidance on how to move forward. Interestingly, after I prayed, new approaches often came to mind. However, I still have to remind myself to pray before I start anything.
Now, regarding the notion of praying without ceasing: during a recent men’s Bible study, we discussed how, with the gift of the Holy Spirit within each of us, we possess a Spirit of prayer that lives in us. Nevertheless, I pray that each of us will continue to grow in our Godly prayer life. Peace be with you.
