GUEST COLUMN

I’m running for the Springfield School Board because I believe every child, teacher, and staff member should feel valued, supported, and empowered. As a parent and community advocate, I understand the importance of listening to students, parents, and teachers, and I’m committed to ensuring their voices are heard in every decision.

One of my top priorities is building strong community partnerships. Our schools need the support of local businesses, organizations, and families. By working together, we can create more opportunities for students, whether through internships, vocational training, or access to

mental health services. I will also work to ensure that decisions are made transparently, so families know how resources are used and can hold the district accountable.

Supporting the mental health of both students and staff is crucial for a thriving school community. We need to provide students with the support they need through counseling, social-emotional learning, and stress management resources. Trauma-informed training and mental health first aid will help staff better support students and recognize emotional challenges within the school environment.

Career readiness is another area I’m passionate about. Not all students will go to college, and that’s okay. I want to ensure every student can access career pathways that prepare them for life after graduation. Whether through apprenticeships, vocational training, or internships, I will

work to connect students with real-world experiences. Partnering with local unions, businesses, and trade organizations will be essential in providing these opportunities.

Lastly, I will work to ensure our schools remain inclusive and equitable. Every student deserves access to high-quality education, regardless of background or ability. I’ll advocate for more resources for special education, mental health services, and academic support, so all students have the tools they need to succeed.

I’m asking for your vote because I’m committed to creating a school district where every student, educator, and parent feels heard, valued, and supported. Together, we can create a school system that empowers students to reach their full potential. Thank you for your support!
