SPRINGFIELD — Jami Resch was sworn in as the Springfield Police Department’s interim chief of police during a ceremony at the Springfield Justice Center on Monday, March 17. Judge James Tierney administered the oath of office, making Chief Resch the first woman to serve as Chief of Police in Springfield’s history.

“Chief Resch is a proven leader who understands that public safety is more than enforcement – it’s a calling. It’s built on trust, accountability, and service,” said Mayor Sean  VanGordon at the ceremony. She brings a wealth of experience and a deep commitment to strengthening relationships, both within SPD and throughout our community.”

Friends and family joined Resch as she took on this leadership role. She has 26 years of law enforcement experience – including serving as Portland’s Chief of Police. She joined the SPD in 2023, and city staff credits her with significantly strengthening community relationships, mentoring officers, and enhancing department operations.

“It’s been a privilege to work with everyone at the Springfield Police Department and our area partners over the past two years,” Resch said. “I’m excited to build upon the strong foundation Chief (Andrew) Shearer established while exploring new opportunities to further innovate in community policing and strengthening the positive work environment for our team.”
