Area wildfires at a glance: Week of Aug. 19

As of Aug. 20, there remain the same nine fires over 100 acres in Lane County, and the cool weather has seemed to help the fire teams make significant improvements in containment.

The Lane 1 Fire is at 25,255 acres and 68% containment as of Aug. 20. There is still a Level 3 (Go) evacuation warning for the Bohemia Mining District and Fairview Peak. This is still the largest fire in the county, stretching from the top of Douglas County to just south of Doreana.

The No Man Fire, just a few miles south of the Lane 1 Fire, is 1,940 acres and 32% containment. Just east of that is the Salmon 33 Fire at 254 acres and 77% containment as of Aug. 20.

The Horse Heaven Creek Fire is at 2,281 acres and 16% containment. This fire is about 45 miles southeast of Cottage Grove.

The Coffeepot Fire is at 6,176 acres and up to 77% containment as of Aug. 20. This is one of the two fires nearing Oakridge and is about 10 miles southeast of the city. The Chalk Fire is the other fire. It is about 20 miles northeast of Oakridge and at 5,663 acres. There is a 66% containment reported as of Aug.20, but there is still a Level 1 (Be Ready) evacuation notice for the area east of North Fork Road and north of Westfir-Oakridge Road to milepost 5.5 on High Prairie Road.

The Moss Mountain Fire is at 842 acres and 0% containment as of Aug. 20. This is about 27 miles southeast of Oakridge. The 208 Fire is the only other fire with a 0% containment reported and is about 15 miles southeast of the Moss Mountain Fire. It is at 247 acres as of Aug. 20.

The Ore Fire, near Blue River and about 40 miles northeast of Springfield, is up to 3,143 acres and is one of the few fires that has decreased in containment percentage. It is at 14% containment as of Aug. 20.

The Chronicle checks the WatchDuty app to stay updated on fire containment and acres. The app is run by retired firefighters, dispatchers, first responders, and journalists working together to monitor radio scanners to provide notices to keep users alert on any fire danger.
