Billies earn highest finish, again, in OSAA Cup

For the second straight season the Pleasant Hill Billies earned the top finish of any school in the area in the OSAA Cup. After finishing 8th last season, the Billies earned 7th in Class 3A.

The OSAA Cup is an annual competition where schools earn points based on how well their teams did in any given season, as well as bonus points for top 10 all-academic finishes.

The Billies, led by a second-place finish in volleyball, earned 1,916.25 points to finish 7th in Class 3A. Thurston had the next-highest finish, earning 2,332.5 points to take 13th overall in Class 5A. The Colts won two state championships on the year: one in girls wrestling and one in baseball.

Back in Class 3A, the Creswell Bulldogs finished with 1,601.25 points and 16th; Cottage Grove finished 18th in Class 4A with 1,697.5 points; and Springfield had 733.33 as the Millers finished 31st in Class 5A.

Of note, Jesuit High School won the Class 6A competition for the 9th straight season, and has won 18 of the past 19 6A titles. For the full results, and more info on scoring, visit: osaa.org/awards/osaa-cup.

Creswell alum Mark Few assisting Team USA

As thousands of athletes and millions of fans descend upon Paris this summer for the 2024 Olympic Games, Creswell will be representing Team USA in the form of CHS alum Mark Few – the head coach of Gonzaga’s men’s basketball team since 1999. 

Few, a 1981 graduate who helped Creswell’s boys basketball team reach the ’81 state semifinals, is an assistant coach for Team USA’s men’s basketball team, which is looking for its 5th straight gold medal.

Few has been an assistant for Team USA since ’22 and has been in multiple roles for Team USA dating back to ’09.
