Photo Essay: A Snowy Valentine’s Day

A snowy Valentine’s Day may have made some lovers spend the evening in rather than braving the roads, like folks on 6th and Blackstone in Springfield, pictured above on Tuesday morning.

Low-elevation snow arrived in the valley, bringing a half inch of snow to the Eugene/Springfield area. High mountain passes, including Santiam Pass (Hwy. 20) and Willamette Pass (Hwy. 58) were largely snow-covered and gained about 14 inches of new snow.

Most roads remained warm enough to avoid sticking snow and traffic was minorly impacted along the I-5 corridor – still, many schools adapted to icy road conditions, delaying the school day by a few hours. The Creswell, Springfield, Oakridge, Pleasant Hill and South Lane School Districts announced two/three hour delays. Students in the Fern Ridge and McKenzie Districts are set to enjoy the snow day.

By the afternoon, the sun will remerge and the snow will be melting – despite temperatures remaining below 50 through the evening, perfect for snuggling up with your sweetie.
