Creswell, Go2: Local Calendar

Accentuate the Positive’ Singers’ Spring Concert is May 5

The Creswell Community Singers will be presenting their spring concert on Sunday, May 5, at 4 p.m. at the Creswell Church of Christ.
The spring concert will feature a variety of songs, including musical show tunes, jazz, spiritual, pop, patriotic, folk and a novelty song. The theme of the concert is “Accentuate the Positive.”
Accompanied by keyboardist Keri Davis, percussionist Walker Carroll and music conductor Mary Ellen Yost, the Singers are comprised of 39 adults from Creswell and adjacent towns.
The program includes a piano duet, Marche Militaire, Opus 1, No. 1 by Franz Schubert, performed by Sue Bowers and Yost.
Choir performances include songs, “We Are the Choir,” and “Accentuate the Positive, Eliminate the Negative.” There will also be songs about dreams. Winnie Belaty will interpret the song “Dream” in sign language, while Nancy Heapes will join Walker Carroll in percussion on “Don’t Let the Rain Come Down.”
There will be three sing-along pieces, “All I Do is Dream of You,” “America” and “He’s Got the Whole World in His Hands.” The final song in the concert will be “Almost Like Being in Love” from the musical “Brigadoon.”
Speakers from the Singers will be Paul Randall and Joan Travis Kelley. The Master of Ceremonies will be Doug Allison.
The Singers were organized in September 2016 with seven singers, then-called the Creswell at Home Community Choir. It is now in its third year, and in the 2018-19 season, the name has changed. The group has grown in membership and in presentations to the community and nearby areas.
The Singers received a Small Arts Culture grant this season from the Oregon Community Foundation.
Admission is free and donations are appreciated.
