Cottage Grove Riding Club looks forward to rodeo

COTTAGE GROVE – The 72nd Cottage Grove rodeo will take place Friday and Saturday at the Cottage Grove Riding Club, the first rodeo put on by the club since the pandemic hit. AJ Cave, president of the club, said he’s excited for the rodeo to finally make its return.

“Just getting it going again,” Cave said, “and having the rodeo come back, seeing the kids out here. …”

The rodeo will have an array of the usual events, including cowhide races for adults and mutton bustin’ and calf riding for kids, something Cave said he can’t wait to see.

“My favorite part, basically seeing the smiles on the kids faces when they get off the sheep or the steers,” he said.

The rodeo will also include a DJ and dance for all ages both nights after the rodeo, free with a rodeo ticket. What’s the most important thing to do at this year’s rodeo, though?

“Just have fun. I mean, that’s what it’s all about, having fun and watching the show,” Cave said.
