Why would a person run for a local office that is basically a part-time job, for no pay, usually thankless, where you cannot please everyone while trying to make the best decisions you can with the information you are given?
Here’s why:
Because It is unlikely I will be able to influence or change decisions in Salem and even less likely to make a difference in Washington, D.C. But I CAN have an impact on the community I live in. By serving on boards, committees and even council, I get the opportunity to help maintain our awesome city, work to improve the things that aren’t working and represent the interests of my neighbors on their behalf.
My experience is in Land Development and housing; helping people navigate city code and review the plans for compliance as it relates to the infrastructure needed. We need this experience considering the changes in policy and the crisis in housing. I believe I have a unique perspective as a former business owner and now public sector worker, not to mention years of being on the budget committee for both small- and medium-size municipalities.
I have developed relationships with many city councilors, mayors, and Lane County Commissioners and I know how to work among agencies to get things done.
I also understand the importance of the relationships we have with social services such as Cahoots, St. Vincent De Paul, Womanspace, and faith-based organizations to care for our most vulnerable populations. It would be an honor to serve you and I am truly humbled by your trust in me – and I take that responsibility seriously.
