Arbor Day event needs volunteers

CRESWELL - Arbor Day event will take place on Saturday, April 30 from 10 a.m. - 1 p.m. at Garden Lake Park, 390 Melton Road. The event is free and will feature tree care volunteer opportunities, kids’ activities and giveaways and more. Tools provided. Fourth graders will receive an ‘Every Kid Outdoors’ pass which will allow them and their entire family free entry into any federal lands or waters including National Parks. Feds Extend Face Mask Requirement Through April 18: The Federal Transportation Safety Administration extended the face mask requirement for passengers traveling aboard public buses, trains, and airplanes through April 18. 

Oregon expands investment in hands-on learning: One hundred forty-eight Oregon middle schools and high schools — including Creswell, Cottage Grove and Marcola — have secured career readiness grants, Colt Gill, the Oregon Department of Education Director, announced March 9.  

Creswell High School received $125,000 for Construction and Manufacturing Technology Expansion. 

Cottage Grove High School received $124,240 for Advanced Manufacturing.

Marcola School District received $125,000 for Mohawk Agriculture Institute and CTE Program Enhancement.

The CTE Revitalization Grant funds from the State of Oregon will serve communities around the state, with programs focused on advanced manufacturing, engineering, agricultural science, app development, robotics, tourism, forestry, home renovation and health care. Across the state, the grants total $7.321 million. 

Students who pass CTE courses graduate at higher rates when compared to the general student population. According to 2020-21 school year figures, CTE concentrators (across all student populations) graduated at a 92.9 percent rate, 12.3 percentage points higher than the state as a whole.

CG Chamber Summer Concerts in the Park poster contest: Calling local artists to submit a design by April 1. The Chamber will use three Concert Posters to promote the 2022 Concert in the Park series. The theme of the piece should be something iconic of Cottage Grove and be about 11 by 8 inch horizontal. There will be three winners and each winner will receive a VIP canopy at one concert during the season. Email entries to [email protected] More info: 541-942-2411.

Talent sought: A Community Talent Show will be held on Sunday, April 3 at 3 p.m., located at the Lorane Grange. Talents include singing, dancing, playing an instrument and comedy on-stage. It will also feature visual talent on display by local artists, woodworkers, crafters and authors.
