Genie Lou Eberle: July 18, 1947 – Jan. 2, 2022

Genie Lou Eberle of Cottage Grove, Ore., passed away Jan. 2, 2022, with her husband, two daughters, and granddaughter by her side.

Genie was born July 18, 1947, in San Francisco, Calif. Genie met James Eberle on a blind date, and they were married May 8, 1971, in Reno, Nev.

They purchased a motorhome and every summer they took their three children on adventures all over the map.

In 1983 James and Genie moved to Cottage Grove. When James received a promotion as postmaster, they bought a little farm and loved to raise animals and always had a beautiful garden. Genie took to canning, specializing in jams, salsa, applesauce, and pickled about everything.

Genie began to work in the travel industry where she became a cruise specialist. This gave her the ability to travel with family and friends. Russia, Alaska, Bahamas, Rome, and the Panama Canal are just a few places she loved.

Genie was very crafty and enjoyed giving friends and family homemade gifts. She was known for her fabulous cookie trays at Christmas time. She loved volunteering with the local hospital auxiliary and was always making little craft kits for the children who would come into the hospital.

She is survived by her husband, James Eberle, daughters Charlotte Toevs and Carmen Dowell, and sons Anthony Eberle and Brian Kelty. She has two sisters and one brother in California. She has eight grandchildren and five great-grandchildren who all loved her and knew her as “Granny.”

A memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to Cottage Grove Hospital Auxiliary. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove.
