Trilla June Tanton: June 12, 1943 – Nov. 1, 2021

Trilla June Tanton (June Hooker, June Jenison) of Springfield passed away Nov. 1, 2021. She was born June 12, 1943 to William and Minnie (Uchytil) Tanton in Springfield, Ore.

Trilla June Tanton is having a joyful reunion with her beloved parents and siblings.

June was a unique woman with a giving nature and incredible capacity to love and forgive. She was sustained by an abiding faith in her Savior and Heavenly Father. She purposefully sought their counsel and comfort, and followed Christ’s example, giving her time to friends & family needing an ear.

Born in Jasper, Ore., her early life was spent a great deal outdoors at the creek, playing with her lifelong friend, Joanne. She talks of the lambs, puppies, her sister and brothers, her mom and larger-than-life daddy.

Her life occupation was that of a homemaker – a calling she undertook earnestly. She baked bread, dinners ‘round the table, kept our home warm, clean, attended countless sport & school events, yelling loudest. She supplied care packages in college and phoned regularly as we each made our ways in the world.

She and her husband returned to their beloved Oregon and bought a ranch in Mohawk Valley. She masterfully decorated the home they built from the ground up. Together they bought cattle, horses, chickens, geese, rabbits, ducks, goats, and fed the swarm of ever-present kittens. Mom loved her pet dogs like her own children. Her entire life, she was never without a dog by her side.

Mom loves all things beautiful – deer, forests, ferns, her yard and secret garden of 40 years. She was an accomplished artist; and for a decade took up oil painting, winning prizes and selling paintings.

Decades of research into family history unearthed family lines previously unknown. With joy she tells of walking in ancestors’ footsteps during European travels with her sons. Her work will carry on as we pass it to family.

Her greatest pride and joy has been her children, grandchildren & great grandchildren. She asked about them, prayed for them, and cared to really know them. She sought to find common interests; pets, dancing, decorating, history, archaeology, astrology, psychology. She got such joy knowing they LOVE THEIR LIVES.

Mom was playful, silly, serious, emotional, curious, hard-working and peaceful. She had health challenges that she endured for her last decades; She was as brave as a person could be.

It’s with much joy of her life, and sadness that we all say Goodbye to June. In the grand scheme of things, we very much look forward to our reunions.

June is survived by her children: Brian Brauner, Lori Hooker and Bradley Hooker; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren; and brother, Jerry Tanton.

She is preceded in death by brothers, Clive Tanton and David Tanton and sister, Dian Jones.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, November 13, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints 1533 Market St. in Springfield, with a funeral to follow at noon.

Services are in care of Major Family Funeral Home in Springfield.
