David Wilbur Sharkey: Oct. 27, 1927 – June 3, 2021

David Wilbur Sharkey, 93, of Creswell, Ore., passed away on June 3, 2021. He was born on Oct. 27, 1927 in Muncie, Ind., to Methodist minister Forrest B. and Iva M. (Alexander) Sharkey. David served in the submarine forces in United States Navy during WW II. 

In 1945 while in the Navy, he met the love of his life, Lois W. Nelson. He and Lois were employed at the U.S. Naval Weapons Station in Concord, Calif. Upon retirement in 1974, they moved to Walton, Ore., eventually settling in Creswell in 1995. David was an avid gardener, pilot, a Golden Gloves state boxing champion and champion swimmer. 

He is survived by sons David Sharkey and wife Carole, Paul Sharkey and wife Karen; sister Joan Koons; brother Stan Sharkey; five grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by infant son Donald Sharkey and in 2017 his beloved wife of 71 years, Lois Sharkey. A Memorial Service and Inurnment was held June 10 at Roseburg National Cemetery in Roseburg, Ore. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel, Cottage Grove.
