Time Travelers Antique Mall in Springfield is among area stores prepared for an uptick in Mother's Day sales.

In a bind for time this Mother’s Day?

Small businesses in South Lane County will be open this weekend, and are goldmine for locally-made and thoughtful gifts.

In Cottage Grove, The Bookmine at 702 E. Main St. is one of the town’s grooviest local bookstores. Sisters Gail and Birdy Hoelzle have been running it since the mid-‘70s, and in April celebrated its 46th anniversary. Through the hard work of the Hoelzle sisters and their husbands, The Bookmine has evolved into much more than a bookstore.

“There’s all kinds of mommy things,” said Gail. “We have the three necessities of life: books, flowers and chocolates.”

The cozy bookstore also sells rings, earrings, bracelets and necklaces that are made both locally and globally. Other items include prisms, candy baskets, houseplants, flowers, hand-crafted incense and garden stones that read: “Mom’s Garden.”

The Bookmine is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.

Time Travelers Antique Mall at 2020 Main St. in Springfield offers one-of-a-kind vintage treasures for Mother’s Day. At 13,000 square-feet, it is the largest antique mall in the county.

“It’s such a diverse environment that you can’t possibly not find something for someone,” Janice Niemela said, who’s co-owned the antique mall with her son and daughter in-law, Reed and Julie Lucas, since 2019. “Does your mom like really weird stuff? How about a taxidermy squirrel wearing an army uniform?”

The eclectic mall offers crystal balls, vinyls, mid-century antique furniture, retro cookware, and collectible coins, and a throwback section dedicated to the ‘60s, ‘70s and ‘80s with VHS tapes and Brady Bunch memorabilia.

“If you get your mom something from her past, it’s a memory that you’ve bought her,” Niemela said. “It’s more than just an item. It’ll be a story to tell the family.”

Niemela suggests that shoppers give their mothers the “entire experience” by picking up a gift certificate. This way, they can make a date with their mom to come back and walk down Memory Lane together.

The Time Travelers Antique Mall is open Monday through Saturday from 11 a.m.-6 p.m. and from noon-5 p.m. on Sunday.

The Creswell Health Mart Pharmacy at 175 E. Oregon Ave is a family-owned business that’s full of little surprises for Mother’s Day. In the gift shop, there’s fuzzy socks, cards, cosmetics, and more. There’s also a selection of raw honey, sourced from the Harvest Hill Farm in Cottage Grove. Sold in mason jars, a pint is $10 and a quart is $18. If mom lives far away, Mother’s Day packages can be shipped. The Health Mart is open Monday-Friday from 9 a.m.-6:30 p.m. and Saturday from 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
