SPRINGFIELD – After being appointed to the Ward 1 council at last week’s Springfield City Council meeting, Damien Pitts officially took his oath of office on Monday.
The work session meeting was only about four minutes long, and Mayor Sean VanGordon joked that the council must’ve broken its record for the shortest work session ever.
“That was easy,” Pitts said.
The next city council meeting is Monday, March 15 at 6 p.m., followed by a regular session.
Permits pulled in February: The Building Division of the Public Works & Development Department last month issued 37 permits, two for single family homes, and performed 101 inspections in Cottage Grove. In Creswell, 21 permits were issued and 55 inspections were performed. In Veneta, 15 permits were issued and 123 inspections were performed. In Coburg, 13 permits were issued, 2 for new single family homes, and 22 inspections were performed.
County transportation committee seats open: The Lane County Administrator is seeking applications from community members to fill three vacancies on the Transportation Advisory Committee. The committee acts as a forum for public input into the County’s transportation system and serves as a liaison group in representing transportation concerns of the community to the Board of County Commissioners. Meetings are the fourth Wednesday of every other month at 5:30 p.m. using remote video conferencing. The committee consists of seven members: one member from each County Commissioner’s voting district; and two at-large appointments. The vacancies are for District 1 (West Lane), District 4 (North Eugene) and an At-Large position.Application deadline is 5 p.m. on April 8. More info: [email protected]
Four seats up for election on community college board: Four seats on the Lane Community College Board of Education are up for election in the May 18 Lane County Special Election. The deadline for candidates to file is March 18.
The open seats are:
Zone 3, primarily the Springfield and Marcola areas, held by Mike Eyster of Springfield;
Zone 1, primarily western Lane County including west Eugene and Florence, vacated last month when Melanie Muenzer of Eugene stepped down to accept a position with the Biden Administration in the U.S. Department of Education; Zone 4; primarily eastern Lane County, currently held by Matt Keating of Eugene; and Zone 5, primarily downtown and south Eugene, currently held by Chelsea Jennings of Eugene.
