Johnathan Verl Miller of Cottage Grove, Oregon, passed away at the age of 68 on August 1, 2020, following complications with Alzheimer’s. John was born in Cottage Grove on July 13, 1952, to parents Benjamin and Rose (Rentz) Miller, one of 8 siblings. He graduated from Cottage Grove High School before beginning his career as a logger; he worked as a cat skinner for 35 years and as a machinist for 12. He and Cheryl Ellison were married on December 7, 1991, in Cottage Grove. John loved the outdoors and spending time hunting, fishing, and camping with his family.
John is survived by his wife Cheryl Miller of Cottage Grove; his son Roger Benjamin Miller of Cottage Grove; his stepdaughters Stacy Thompson of Eugene, Oregon, and Keri Thompson of Springfield, Oregon; his stepson Brent Locke of Cottage Grove; his siblings Maryanne King of Springfield, Jim Miller of Cottage Grove, Mike Miller of Cottage Grove, Bobbi Loyd of Creswell, Oregon, Sue Bottorf of Cottage Grove, and Molly Fournier of Cottage Grove; and his granddaughter Jayden Paige Miller.
A memorial service will be held at Shady Oaks on Sunday, August 16 from 1-3 p.m. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Home in Cottage Grove.
