Billy J. Dennis, 90, of Cottage Grove, passed away on July 7, 2020. He was born in Hillsboro, Texas on Sept. 10, 1929.
Billy served in the United States Army Artillery attachment during the Korean War. He married the love of his life, Virginia Mae Fleming, on Oct. 7, 1948. Billy and Virginia were married for 61 years before her passing in 2009.
He worked for Oakland Pipe and Supplies for 23 years in Oakland, California, and moved to Cottage Grove, Oregon, in 1976.
Billy was an active volunteer, where he gave 10 years volunteering at Lane County Sanitation in recycling, and another 10 years for Meals on Wheels. Billy enjoyed raising livestock, riding horses, gardening, church, and was always available for a good laugh.
Billy was preceded in death by two sisters; three of his brothers; his wife, Virginia; and daughter, Jennifer Anne Fruge, in 2011.
Billy is survived by sister Barbara Dennis; daughter Kathleen A. Lindahl; sons William J. Dennis, Michael T. Dennis and Thomas A. Dennis; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held at Fir Grove Cemetery. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel.
