Iona Marie McHoes passed away May 28, 2020, in Cottage Grove, Oregon. She was born Sept. 9, 1925, in Sarben, Nebraska, to Edward E. and Myda M. (Parker) Miller.
In the early 1930’s during the Depression, the family moved to Oregon and settled in Marcola. She graduated from Marcola High School in 1943. She attended a business school in Eugene and went to work for Dotson’s Photo Shop as a payroll clerk. It was there she met her husband Thomas D. McHoes and they were married in 1946. They moved their family to San Jose, California, in 1961. She worked at the post office there for 20 years. When she retired, she and her husband traveled the country in an RV visiting family and doing family history.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1994 and her son Edward in 2015.
She is survived by daughters Lois French, Glenna McHoes and Peggy McHoes and a son Thomas Scott McHoes, eight grandchildren, 14 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and five nephews.
Interment will be at Ogburn Inwood Cemetery in Shingletown, California, on June 15, 2020. Arrangements in the care of Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, Oregon.
