SPRINGFIELD – Among the Lane County businesses deciding to close offices and retail stores for the health and safety of employees and the community in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic was Euphoria Chocolate Company in Eugene.
The decision left the company in a bit of a quandary regarding its inventory of classic truffles – which are handcrafted and hand-dipped and require refrigeration – and they found an elegant and caring solution.
On Friday, March 20, Euphoria owners Bonnie and Van Glass donated ”chocolate cheer” – in the form of 1,300 classic truffles, from three stores – to healthcare workers at three area hospitals: Sacred Heart Medical Center RiverBend and University District, and McKenzie-Willamette Medical Center.
Katie Urhausen, co-owner of DLX (Deployed Logix) in Eugene – a rapid response/deployment team that works with law enforcement, first responder, urban search and rescue, military and private organizations – stepped up to deliver the truffles, using sanitary practices.
”What this has shown me is that after this crisis is over, our community will rally to support local business and each other as they always have,” Bonnie Glass said.
Euphoria Chocolate’s generosity ”turned a dilemma into a kind gesture to those on the front lines of our community’s pandemic,” noted Liz Gill of the Gillmore Agency, an advertising, marketing and PR company, in an email accompanying a press release about the gesture.
Euphoria stores will be closed through most of April, and perhaps longer. Online orders can still be placed at euphoriachocolate.com, for local area delivery.
