Dorothy Seymour – Aug. 31, 1930 – Jan. 2, 2020

Dorothy Seymour, of Cottage Grove, Oregon, and formerly of San Jose, Calif., passed away Jan. 2, 2020 at the age of 89.
She was born in Cincinnati, Ohio, on Aug. 31, 1930 to parents Roy Albert and Anna Mae (Gossett) McCollum.
Dorothy married Arthur Seymour on Sept. 9, 1949 and they celebrated 62 years of marriage before his passing in 2011.
Dorothy had a varied career, mostly in the fields of transportation and real estate, where she was a licensed agent. She was very social, easily meeting new people and maintaining long-term friendships. Dorothy was always volunteering in the community, including the Auxiliaries of the Santa Clara Valley Medical Center, St. Joseph’s Hospital and Cottage Grove Community Hospital.
A true ”49er Faithful,” she also enjoyed professional golf (Tiger Woods), Big Band-era music and jigsaw puzzles, which soon became framed pieces of art.
To Dorothy, family always came first and with her passing, there is a loss of a generation in the McCollum family.
Dorothy is survived by her daughters Susan VanBibber (Wayne; deceased) of Clovis, Calif. and Diana Tremelling (Bill) of Longview, Wash., as well as her son Larry Seymour (Cathy) of Cottage Grove, Ore. Also surviving her are four grandchildren (Brian, Robert, Laura and Scott) and two great-grandchildren (Evan and Logan), along with many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband Arthur, sister Cora Jane and four brothers: Edward, James, Glen and Patrick. Arthur and the McCollum brothers all served proudly in the U.S. military.
A celebration of life will be held at 2 p.m. on Friday, Jan. 17 at Smith-Lund-Mills Funeral Chapel in Cottage Grove, Ore. Interment will take place in California at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local Humane Society or a charity of your choice.
