COTTAGE GROVE – The Cottage Events Venue is offering several opportunities for families to have creative holiday fun this season by decorating a handmade, pre-built gingerbread structure together.
There will be over 30 different candies and decorating items to choose from, ranging from candy canes to gummy butterflies to gingerbread fences.
Kim Still, venue owner, designed the three structures: a classic cottage style, a country church and a model of the Mosby Creek covered bridge. She bakes and assembles them in advance so the houses are ready for decorating when participants arrive.
Each of the models has hard sugar ”stained glass” windows and tiny LED lights inside.
”Since we are in Cottage Grove, I especially wanted to include a covered bridge as an option,” she said. ”Mosby Creek is the oldest working bridge, and it’s closest to the Cottage Events Venue.”
Still took photos of the bridge herself so she could get the shape right.
”It took quite a bit of engineering to get it to go together properly,” she said. ”It actually has an elevated road bed.”
