Stay healthy during shorter, cooler days

As shorter days, cooler weather and less access to healthy summer foods are upon us, we experience a decline in our immune system; hence, “cold and flu season.”
There are several affordable ways to keep your immune system boosted throughout the fall and winter:
Strengthen your gut. Studies have shown that 70% of our immune system relies on well-balanced digestive health. Eat foods high in natural probiotics or seek out a quality probiotic supplement. Avoid processed foods and sugar. Sugar wreaks havoc on our immune systems by temporarily debilitating immune system cells designed to attack harmful bacteria.
Eat whole foods that are high in vitamins C and E, zinc and beta-carotenes. If your diet is low in fruits and vegetables, you may consider a high-quality nutritional supplement.
Get plenty of sleep and exercise. Both are essential to maintaining an immune system that is capable of fighting cold and flu viruses.
Seek natural ways to lessen stress. Get a massage. Practice meditation. Take a walk or a warm bath. Engage in a hobby that makes you happy. Stress creates an imbalance in our body’s hormones which can quickly weaken our immune system, making you more susceptible to viruses.
Wash your hands! It is such a simple and reliable way to avoid passing those pesky germs from your hands to your mouth or eyes.
Creswell Wellness Center offers a variety of products and services that are aimed at helping you and your family through fall and winter without experiencing illness. Supplements such as Source Natural’s Wellness Formula® and Elderberry syrup have proven to be a profound resource in both cold and flu prevention and recovery.
Massage therapists Amy Osborn and Chelsea Pisani both offer Raindrop Technique massage. The Raindrop Technique utilizes a series of essential oils applied systematically to both feet and along the spine that have proven antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties to boost immune system health.
Prevention is easier and far less expensive than recovery. The first step to staying healthy this season is maintaining a strong, balanced immune system.
