Winning nine events helped the Creswell Bulldogs top the boys’ team standings with 84 points and the girls’ team placing second with 52 points as Creswell played host to a special District 4 Northern Region track and field meet April 24.
Leading the Bulldogs boys, Grant Marshall won the 800m in a season’s-best 2:14.40 and the triple jump at a PR of 38-09; Christian Tucker won the 1500m in 4:34.61; Brandon Moehlmann won the 3000m in a PR of 9:58.12; Nick Bronson won the 110m high hurdles in a PR of 15.15; Gauge Smith won the 300m intermediate hurdles in a PR of 41.06; and the 4x100m relay team of Devin Johnson, Bronson, Andrew Cox and Smith won in 44.56.
For the girls, Shelby Lamm won the 100m in a PR of 12.98; Hannah Bettis won the 300m intermediate hurdles in a PR of 50.44; and the 4x100m relay team of Kendyl Seiber, Allison Smathers, Bettis and Lamm won in 55.59.
In other scoring finishes, Bronson placed second in the 300m hurdles in 42.72 and sixth in the javelin at 91-05 (PR); Caden Walker placed second in the 110m hurdles in 21.39 (PR) and fifth in the 300m hurdles in 55.65; Johnson placed second in the 200m in 23.82 (PR); Tucker placed third in the 3000m in 11:07.68 and sixth in the 200m in 25.24 (PR); and Cox placed second in the 400m in a season’s-best 59.22.
Payden Criddle and Tucker tied for third in the high jump with PRs of 5-04; Criddle placed fourth in the triple jump at 35-11; Hugo Taura placed fourth in the 300m hurdles in 51.26 (PR) and fifth in the 400m in 1:00.78 (PR); Josiah Lee placed third in the 800m in 2:17.75 and fifth in the 1500m in 4:51.15; and Cam Nguyen placed fourth in both the 800m in 2:22.81 and the 1500m in 4:46.10.
Jackson Velarde placed fourth in the 3000m; the 4x400m relay team of Marshall, Nguyen, Lee and Jackson Parker placed third in 3:59.90; Gonzalo Cardenas placed sixth in the discus at 80-04; and Smith placed seventh in the javelin at 83-07 (PR).
Lamm placed second in the 200m in a season’s-best 27.59 and fourth in the 400m in 1:10.82 (PR); Bettis placed second in the 100m high hurdles in 16.97 (PR) and fourth in the discus at a season’s-best 73-02; and Harmony Goodman placed second in the 800m in 3:08.12 and third in the 1500m in 6:29.50.
Merrily Arnold placed second in the long jump at 12-01.5 and fifth in the 100m hurdles in 20.87 (PR); Seiber placed second in the 300m hurdles in 52.08, third in the 100m hurdles in 18.56 (PR) and sixth in the javelin at 64-07; and Smathers placed third in the 800m in 3:15.85.
The Bulldogs also competed in the Stayton Twilight Meet hosted by Regis on April 26, where the boys placed 10th of 26 teams – mostly from larger schools.
”We beat all other 3A teams in the meet on the boys’ side,” noted Creswell Head Coach Jonathan Ferguson.
Smith PR’d in both the 400m, placing second in 51.28a and the 200m, placing fourth in 23.00a.
Bronson placed third in the 300m hurdles in 43.41a and fourth in the 110m hurdles in 15.86a; the 4x400m relay team of Smith, Bronson, Tucker and Cox placed fifth in 3:46.58a; and Grant Marshall placed seventh in the triple jump at 37-10.
Bettis placed seventh in the 300m hurdles in 51.20a and eighth in the 100m hurdles in 17.33a; and Seiber placed eighth in the 300m hurdles in 51.59a (PR).
”Our team is starting to peak at the right time with one more week of meets before our district meet,” Ferguson said. ”Across the board, our runners, jumpers and throwers are all improving and showing that we are going to be an extremely competitive team come championship season.”
