Chronicle Blessings – Richard Heyman

RICHARD HEYMAN, CHRONICLE COLUMNIST

A holiday established many years ago to thank our creator for the many glorious things that have come our way, to realize how fortunate we are. I always invoke a blessing for the ancestors that established this great nation.
The pilgrims worked and preserved, overcoming many obstacles. According to the history books, they came to America to have a better life, free to worship as they desire, own their own property and be successful in their endeavors. They had to make friends with the native peoples, Indians.
Sometimes they were successful and other times not. Nevertheless, because of these hardy individuals we have this wonderful nation and can live as free, independent citizens enjoying the bounty of our own ambitions.
A wholesome meal quite often is what many persons look forward to for this holiday. I know we do, but we still believe in voicing our thanks.
