■ Tipping off: The defending-Class 5A state champion Millers host Canby to open the season. Canby went 16-9 last season and made the postseason. Springfield coach Joe Williamson is unsure if Wednesday’s game would serve as the ring ceremony game for Springfield, but it’s worth noting this game is Springfield’s sole home game until Jan. 3.
■ Pierre’s take: The Millers take center stage as this winter’s first main event as they begin their campaign for back-to-back state titles. Springfield is sure to be the title favorite after returning multiple key players, including two-time state Player of the Year Danaeja Romero-Ah Sam and 2nd-team all-state player JB Robinson. Look for the Millers to make a statement in their opening game.
