Incident: Suspect Apprehended After Fatal Vehicle Vs. Pedestrian Accident
Location: 3000 Block of Main St.
Driver apprehended for hit & run death
SPRINGFIELD – A pedestrian skateboarding on 3000 block of Main St. on June 25 at 1:49 a.m. was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound. The skateboarder was using the bicycle lane. He was fatally injured at the scene.
A responding officer observed a dark-colored sedan matching the description of the fleeing vehicle and conducted a traffic stop with the driver, Wilber Alexander Grijalva-Ortiz, 21, of Springfield, and was able to determine that the vehicle had in fact been involved. At this point, the driver was apprehended without incident.
Speed and alcohol appear to have been factors in the incident. Police ask residents with any additional information in relation to the accident to contact 541-726-3714 or [email protected].
