Baseball Recaps

Cottage Grove: The Lions went 2-0 last week, beating Sheridon 10-0 and Scio 5-4. It was the Spear show last week for the Lions. Against Sheridan, sophomore Micah pitched 5 innings, allowing only 1 hit and striking out 11. Junior Christian led the offense with 3 hits, 2 runs and 2 RBIs. Then against Scio the Spear’s combined for 15 K’s to lead the Lions to their third-straight win.

Pleasant Hill: Pleasant Hill went 2-1 last week at the Cascade Christian Tournament, beating No. 14 Warrenton 5-1 and Junction City 7-6 before falling to No. 1 Banks 6-5. Against Warrenton the Billies used a 4-run 6th-inning to win, including Blake Richardson’s single that drove in Caleb Van Ordstrand and Caden Richardson. Pleasant Hill beat JC thanks to Caden Fisher’s two-run double in the 7th-inning, as well as Cody Rusche’s 7 K’s. In the Banks loss, Pleasant Hill was unable to mount a comeback despite a 3-run final inning that saw Hunter Allen and Blake Richardson score on a Banks error.

Springfield: The Millers went 3-0 at the Springfield Tournament. First on Wednesday, Springfield beat Elmira 19-3 behind 3 hits from Noah Roemen and Alex King, as well as 4 RBIs from Gabriel Laird. On Thursday and Friday Springfield beat South Eugene 7-5 and McDaniel 7-3 behind huge 6th-innings. Against SE, Laird and King both scored as a part of a 5-run inning. Friday the Millers scored 6 in the 6th to beat McDaniel.

Thurston: After an 0-1 start at the Coach Bob Invitational in Arizona Thurston finished the tournament with three wins and a tie. On Tuesday, the Colts drew with Arapahoe (CO) 5-5 before beating Higley (AZ) 11-3 behind Kyle Miller’s 3 hits and 2 RBIs, as well as Maddox Molony’s 3 hits, 1 RBI and 1 run. On Wednesday, Thurston handled Desert Mountain (AZ) 15-6 thanks to Molony, who went 3-3 at the plate with 5 RBIs, including a 3-run home run in the 5th-inning. In Thurstons final win, a 9-4 victory over St. Viator (IL), freshman Grady Saunders had 3 hits to go along with 7 K’s on the mound.

Softball recaps

Pleasant Hill: Pleasant Hill’s sole game last week was a 14-3 loss at Class 4A No. 3 Stayton. The Billies were also scheduled to play two other top-10 teams in Scio and South Umpqua, but the games were canceled due to weather. In the Stayton loss, Chelsea McAllister had a three-run homer in the third inning, while Karley Bloxham stuckout 5 in relief.

Thurston: Thurston’s only game in the last week was a 3-0 loss to Oregon City in its final game at the North Medford Spring Break Tournament. Gabriella Montes had 3 hits and Hailey Letsom had 2 for the Colts, while Kasey Ogan struckout 4 on the mound.
