Creswell Heritage Foundation update

By Verlean McCoy

Here is what is going on with Creswell Heritage Foundation since our last update:

1) Work is being done on our utility upgrades. Bear Mountain Electric is upgrading and extending all of our electrical; Mark Nearing Plumbing is upgrading and extending our plumbing system; Marshalls is installing insulation; and Emerald Valley Weatherization will be installing a new ductless heat pump system.  We are also building a new ADA-compliant restroom. We expect the work to be done by the end of March.

 2) We will build an ADA ramp and deck on the west end of the old schoolhouse this year. We have received $2,500 from the Lane County Cultural Coalition; $5,000 from Cycle Oregon; $2,000 from the Coquille Tribal Community Fund; and $2,500 from the City of Creswell Community Service Fund via Creswell First! We are pleased that these groups support our goal of providing equal access to all community members.

3)  Planning is underway for the final phase of the restoration project. This is the repair, replacement or protection of the walls, floors, and doors. It will begin in late summer. A year from now, we expect to be planning our Grand Opening!

4)  We are also looking ahead at how the building will be used. Our goal is for it to be a sustainable-use community meeting place and venue. We will be exploring how to make that work in the months ahead.  Your ideas are welcome.
