JoAnn “Susan” Bain was born November 23, 1944 in Almont, N.D. to Joseph and Anna Kronberger. She died on March 20, 2022 with her husband at her side. Susan was the middle of five children: Gordon, Gary, Sandra, and Gene. They moved to Saginaw, Ore., in 1946. Susan graduated from Cottage Grove High School in 1963 with the “Most Athletic” superlative. After high school, she worked for Dairy Queen, A&W, and Pep’s Drive-In. Susan spent a year at Eugene Bible College and then a year in Everett, Wash., before settling back in Cottage Grove. Susan was working at Rose Meat and Locker when she fell in love with the milkman, Lloyd Bain. Their first date was at the Lane County Fair in August of 1968 and they were married the following March. Susan worked for Gates Meat Company, and later Willamette Poultry. She had one daughter, Kimberly, in 1971. Susan spent 23 years at Foster Farms before retiring in 2006. Susan was a dedicated member of Yoncalla Church of Christ, where she managed the kitchen and volunteered for Vacation Bible School. She was well known for her beloved oatmeal chocolate chip cookies. Susan’s last years were challenged by Alzheimer’s disease, but her joy was steadfast. Lloyd was her full-time caregiver until she passed just two days short of their 53rd wedding anniversary. Susan is survived by her husband Lloyd, daughter Kimberly, son-in-law Shawn, grandchildren Shania, Madison, Aden, and Asher, great-granddaughter Collins, sister Sandra, and many cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
