I received this note from two Italian friends. It reminds me how important America is – not just to us, but to many around the world. In light of Covid, perhaps a celebration of democracy could happen by July 4.
“We think there is only one way to give a strong signal, both internally and internationally; to reiterate that the overwhelming majority of Americans continue to believe in democracy, in institutions and, above all, in civilization; in civil coexistence and strong sense of community: the DP should organize a very large demonstration in Washington, with at least 1 million people and widespread participation (non-partisan). It would not be a demonstration against, but a demonstration in favor, a signal, a proof of how strongly democracy is rooted in the American society.”
